The Local List

A Modern Bulletin Board in Asheville

Post a flyer

The Local List is a modern paperless bulletin board. The mission of the site is to provide the simplicity and usefulness of a community bulletin board in a current and modern way. Anyone can create an account and easily post a flyer. Flyers are organized by categories making it easy for people to find whatever they are looking for. The Local List is currently being tested in Asheville but can be adopted in any or every community

The Local List is built entirely using open-source technology. Specifically Python / Django with a PostgreSQL database and Bootstrap for the UI. The application is deployed to Heroku and uses AWS S3 for image file serving. All code is unit tested and under version control on GitHub
"Our family has been a part of the Roots and Wings community preschool for going on three years. The support, love and excitement for creative learning that the teachers share oozes from the classrooms with such a comforting energy, that when everyday life shifted with Covid-19 we were heartbroken to miss that in person experience.

Low and behold...the creative minds came together and formed a whole new way of connecting! My kids get to see their teachers via the classes and the creative activities are not only thought provoking but easy to follow and accessible to a variety of ages (including parents!).

Ginger and her staff have made a best case scenario out of a situation that has caused us all challenge and stress. They are creating content that continues to inspire creativity, interactive learning and fun. Although we miss the in-person learning and time with friends, the online access has kept us connected with community that feels supported and safe."

We love Roots and Wings!

Growing Wild Forest School is a nature-immersion preschool and summer camp located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Western North Carolina. Founded in 2016, the school serves as the region's first and only not-for-profit early childhood education program that nurtures child-led nature connection and whole-child development across the changing seasons. Operating year-round, GWFS offers four-hour school days for ages 3-6, and one-of-a-kind camp programming for five hours a day in the summer months for ages 3-8.

Each summer we offer day camp sessions for ages 3-8 from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm at our campus in West Asheville. Attendance per week costs $200 (previously $250), including a deposit. In the case that programming is delayed due to COVID-19, deposits will be fully refunded. Choose which week(s) to attend based on your child's individual interests and your family's summer schedule! Each session will have a unique nature theme to inspire a sense of wonder, adventure and imagination.

Our produce department is 100% organic and we boast the bulkiest bulk department in the SE, possibly the nation. We have a basics program that keeps staple items affordably priced, and a diverse staff both part time and full time. We are dedicated to serving our owners and the WNC community by providing high quality natural foods and personal care products through a mutually beneficial exchange. We support consumption of healthful and organic foods, grown or produced locally with ecological and social responsibility.

We have plenty of parking, too. While you are shopping at the co-op, you can park in our upper or lower parking lot, the corner lot of Hillard & Biltmore, across from the Orange Peel, or at 67 Biltmore, the LaZoom lot.
